| The normal human heart
is a strong, muscular pump a little larger than a fist. Each
day an average heart 'beats' (expands and contracts) 100,000
times and pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood. The heart continuously
pumps oxygenated and nutrient rich blood continuously to all
parts of the body via/through blood vessels. |
| Broadly Heart Diseases can
be classified as:
1). Congenital Heart Diseases: structural heart diseases since
birth like ASD, VSD, PDA, TOF (Blue baby)
2). Coronary Heart Diseases causing ischaemic heart disease
manifesting as angina syndromes and myocardial infarctions
(heart attacks).
3). Valvular Heart Diseases- Rheumatic Heart Diseases leading
to stenosis –tightening or leakage of heart valves eg.
MS,AS, MR,AR etc.
4). Cardiomypathy - disorders of heart muscles.
5). Heart Failure as a result of any of the above.
