Scientific studies have shown that
the stress and strain of daily life takes its toll upon
the human body. As a result an individual is prone and
vulnerable to many diseases in addition to psychological
anxiety. These include Hypertension and Atherosclerosis
~ the underlying component of Coronary artery disease.
Scientific studies have also proven the role of yoga,
pranayam, meditation and daily exercise as potent stress
busters. Indulging in these healthy practices helps
to control blood pressure, prevent progression of atherosclerosis
and even helps in regression of mildly occlusive lesions
in the coronary arteries.
The word "Nirvana" means attainment of salvation through
continued austerities pertaining to the body, speech
and mind. Rigorous meditation, healthy eating practices
and adoption of proper lifestyle, living a life characterized
by simplicity, common sense and love lead to Nirvana
~ a state of mental and spiritual bliss. The salvation
from heart disease is the ultimate goal of preventive
Cardiology.
Freedom from heart diseases especially coronary artery
disease needs active participation of the entire community;
political, social, educational and health institutions.
These efforts should be aimed at prevention of risk
factors that ultimately lead to CAD from the time when
the child is in school and continued through the entire
spectrum of the population. |
