1. Keep a watch on your diet right from the school age. Avoid fast and fried foods, animal fats, dairy products and prefer food which includes low salt, low fat, high starch, high fiber, high vitamins from fresh fruits, cereals, vegetables and non-fried fish.
2. Maintain ideal body weight.
3. Be physically active; plan your exercise programme for brisk walking, jogging or cycling in consultation with your doctor.
4. Recognize stressful circumstances & Learn to relax by Yoga / Meditation. Do not allow emotional and psychological stresses to come your way.
5. Find time for your family; share your work and worries with family and friends.
6. Do not smoke and chew tobacco, stop it as early as possible if you smoke or chew.
7. Cut down alcoholic beverages in social gatherings. Restrict your self between one / two servings of 30 ml each.
8. Keep a regular check on your blood pressure. If you suffer from high blood pressure take your medicines regularly and observe all other precautions.
9. If you are suffering from diabetes keep blood sugar levels under control by dietary precautions and medicines.
10. Consult your doctor for risk stratification.
11. After the age of 40 go for yearly health check as heart disease can be a silent killer; you may nip the disease before it is too late.
IF YOU ARE ALREADY SUFFRING FROM ANGINA / HEART DISEASE THEN CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR. YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO SOME OF THE FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT PLANS:
1. Risk factor profile assessment – lipid profile, blood sugar & pressure assessment
2. ECG – to record the electrical activity, the mirror of your heart !
3. TMT: This is an exercise ECG to unravel CAD during stress.
4. Color Doppler Echocardiography / Stress Echo: to see your heart by ultrasound beams.
5. Coronary Angiography: A roadmap of the pipelines of your heart.
Presence of silent CAD can also be detected by these tests
Treatment Plans

After the proper diagnosis you may require one of the following.

1.Medical Management with drugs and lifestyle changes.

2.Coronary Angioplasty with or without stent implantation.
